VIDEO– The BAT Covers Virgin America Party at SFO

Filed under: Uncategorized — Chris @ 12:20 am

Hey Folks: THE BAT was invited to Virgin America’s inaugural party for its new Orange County-SFO flights today. (OC is the SF-based carrier’s ninth destination.) If you’ve ever wondered how Richard Branson likes to kick off new flights, take a look at this video and you’ll see free lunches, beautiful people, a groovy band, surfboards, organic cocktails— all at gate A-12 at SFO!

Key observation: In his speech, Branson refers to Virgin America as “them” and “they” (not “us” or “we”) which is smart considering the carrier’s thorny ownership issues.

This is our first foray into video reporting on THE BAT. We are just learning how to use our new FLIP camera and the new editing software on the new MAC. So please chime in with your thoughts and constructive criticism!

Here’s the link to the 3 minute video. Enjoy!

  1. Well edited, and nice titles. The video provided a complete understanding of the event without having to listen to long marketing speeches. Interesting that they have wifi (and power, I’m told), but if someone on a long flight uses Skype in the seat next to me, I’m pushing the call button or jumping ship…

  2. Hey, Chris! Love the flip phone! I’ll have to research that gadget for my own travels. I had the honor of flying with Richard Branson on his inaugural flight from London to Chicago in 1999. We had a ball in London and he even paid for us to see the play “All that Jazz.” Then, in Chicago he bought out a blues club and bought Blues Brothers shirts, ties, hats and sunglasses. We all got dressed up and laughed all night long as the drinks were flowing along with the live blues music. Branson KNOWS how to throw a party!

    • Thanks Kalin! Great to hear from you. For all you BAT readers, Kalin was a travel correspondent for CNN was the FIRST person from CNN to interview me when I lived in Atlanta. As a result, I went on to do lots of travel reporting for the network and for Headline News. It was a real kick start to my career in travel. I’m forever grateful to my Kalin!
